A crowd of close to 5,000 racegoers headed to Bangor-on-Dee this weekend for Wrexham Lager Family Funday, with close to 2,000 choosing to spend their day on the Open Course.
Seven races entertained the crowds, including the feature race; The Wrexham Lager Export Handicap Steeple Chase, with a total prize fund of: £10,000.
A cheering crowd witnessed a rarity as a place dead heat was called on The Buck House Hotel Handicap Steeple Chase. A close battle to the finish line between Cruising Bye, snatching the win by a nose and Court Dismissed who finished alongside The Last Bridge in a memorable photo finish.
Groups of families, friends and racing enthusiasts alike enjoyed their afternoon even more as the sun broke through the clouds and children were treated to free activities, including a mobile climbing wall, children’s soft play, a jungle run, a pirate ship and face.
Kids had great fun putting their colouring in skills to the test with our colouring in completion to win tickets to our next Family Fun Fixture, Family Evening on Wednesday 16 August. With the winning masterpiece featuring in the racecard.
General Manager, Jeannie Chantler said: “Despite the rain in the morning the afternoon turned out to be fine and sunny and a crowd of close to 5,000 came racing. With families attending to watch the racing and all the Children's Entertainment FREE on the day everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. With a very local winner of the 6th race, 'Cruising Bye' owned by Mr Frank Lloyd who lives just up the road and local trainer Donald McCain having two winners, we had great results for the area.
“This Family Fun Day is growing year on year and we hope to be able to replicate it in August when we have a Family Fun Evening on Wednesday 16th. "
Family Evening is set to be filled with more excitement for the whole family. Enjoy the Summer Holidays with the kids from £7 per adult on the Open Course when booked in advance and children go free. Parking is available free of charge on the day.
