The Tote’s Back Heritage Day, Friday 7 February to jump start 2020 at Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse

Published on 5 February 2020

Friday 7 February plays host to The Tote’s Back Heritage Day at Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse, a day that welcomes the Tote’s return in a four-year partnership with Chester Race Company. The UK’s leading pool betting operator will become the exclusive pool betting solution, replacing Bangor Bet, whilst the Bangor Sport Betting Shop will remain in situ.

Why not start your weekend early and enjoy a Friday afternoon of racing? A visit to Bangor-on-Dee is great fun, whether you’re part of a group or looking to try something new. This fixture offers the perfect opportunity to enjoy the thrill of national hunt racing from the only track in North Wales. Seven races are set to entertain racegoers from 1.40pm and gates will open at 11.30am.

At the entry stage, there are some interesting potential contenders. The action begins with the Tote Placepot First Bet of the Day EBF Mares’ Novices’ Chase. The Jonjo O’Neill trained Annie Mc will be seeking a hattrick of wins over the larger obstacles and was four lengths clear of potential rival If You Say Run on her penultimate start. Midnight Tune is another exciting entry for the in-form Anthony Honeyball yard. The mare was pulled up on her latest start in the Grade 2 Peter Marsh Chase at Haydock over three miles and will look to re-establish her form back in same sex company. A standout entry in the Tote’s Back Novices’ Hurdle is The Cashel Man; he has classy form to his name, most notably finishing second behind Thyme Hill in a Grade 1 at Newbury on his latest start. Nicky Henderson has also entered Hijack in the other Novices’ Hurdle on the card; the five-year-old is unbeaten in two starts over hurdles.

Final preparations are now underway to get the course in perfect condition ahead of the first meeting of the year for those both on and off the track and the afternoon promises to be a busy fixture.

The charity, Racing to School, will also be in attendance. Their programme offers school children and students a free behind-the-scenes look at the inner-workings of a racecourse on raceday, through visits to racecourses. Alongside the informative workshops within the context of racing to spark additional interest in the sport of horseracing amongst the students.
