Friday 8 February plays host to the first Heritage Day at Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse. A day dedicated to acknowledging the fascinating history that the track preserves and holds.
Established on 25 February 1859, Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse is celebrating its 160th anniversary of racing. To mark the notable milestone, a timeline depicting some of the key moments from Bangor’s illustrious history will also be unveiled in a special exhibition in the Paddock Restaurant at their upcoming fixture on Friday 8 February 2019. All racegoers in attendance will be invited to read many interesting facts about the racecourse, perhaps some for the first time.
The charity, Racing to School will also be in attendance with students from Oaklands School. The program offers school children and students a free behind-the-scenes look at the inner-workings of a racecourse on raceday, through visits to racecourses. Alongside the informative workshops within the context of racing, it is hoped that the history timeline will spark additional interest in the sport of horseracing amongst the students.
Education Officer for Racing to School Carrie Ford said “Racing to School receives great support from Bangor on Dee Racecourse and I am delighted that together we are able to offer many children a unique, exciting and fun learning experience. We also continue to build on and further develop the Racing Together initiative activity, strengthening links and engaging with the local community.”
It is hoped that many local university students will also be in attendance on the day as Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse will once again be offering Glyndwr University students FREE Paddock Enclosure access* to this fixture and any remaining fixture in the 2019 racing season.
