Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse Awarded 2022 Gold Standard Status by the ROA

Published on 1 February 2023

Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse has been awarded Gold Standard status for 2022 by the Racehorse Owners Association, as part of the ROA Accreditation Scheme.

One of just 12 racecourses to receive the highly-coveted accolade, Bangor-on-Dee has invested significantly in its facilities over the years to provide an exemplary experience for racehorse owners.

Launched in 2019, the ROA Accreditation Scheme, assessed by AA Hospitality Services, independently reviews the raceday experience of owners using a defined set of criteria, providing each course with a quality mark based on performance. Those achieving a rating of at least 80 per cent are then assessed for the ROA Gold Standard award, which was first handed out in 2006.

Measuring 50 aspects of the raceday, from pre-arrival, through to all aspects of the day, the departure and post-raceday contact, the ROA’s Accreditation Scheme works in close collaboration with racecourses to enhance the experience for owners, and to help recognise the commitment and contribution that they make to the sport.

A dedicated owners and trainers’ team is in place at Bangor-on-Dee to maintain strong relationships and works hard to deliver consistency and quality across every raceday.

The introduction of Owners’ Feedback to the Accreditation Scheme in 2022 has allowed owners to share their thoughts on the raceday experience within the assessment, with Bangor-on-Dee scoring joint-highest on this front and being placed in the top 10 racecourses overall.

The course, which will host its first ever RPM North Wales National meeting on Friday 10 February, has consistently achieved Gold Standard status since 2017.

Patrick Chesters, General Manager of Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse, said:

“This award recognises Bangor-on-Dee as one of the top racecourses in the UK for accommodating the requirements of owners and trainers and providing the best possible experience.

“There has been considerable investment into our facilities for owners and trainers over the years and the retention of the Gold Standard award is indicative of that.

“To particularly score so highly in the newly-introduced Owners’ Feedback category is credit to our devoted team here, who carefully manage every aspect of that relationship in the lead up to, during and after a raceday.”

Bangor-on-Dee is proud of the service that it provides to owners and trainers, which includes a three-course lunch, half a bottle of wine and a seat/table for the day.
