Andrew Malam – WINNER of the Racing Welfare Lifetime in Racing Achievement Award (West)

We would like to say a huge congratulations to our very own Andrew Malam, Head Groundsman here at Bangor-On-Dee Racecourse, who has been declared the WINNER of the Racing Welfare Lifetime in Racing Achievement Award! (West)

Andrew has been an integral part of our team for nearly 40 years. His dedication to the racecourse and sport of horse racing comes second to none, and we would like to thank him for all his hard work over the years.

Andrew has been invited to Cheltenham Racecourse on 21^st October 2022, along with Jeannie Chantler, Ed Gretton and Robert his Stepson to collect his well-deserved award where there is also a race at 4:30pm named the ‘Andrew Malam Lifetime In Racing Award Winner Amateur Jockey’s Handicap Chase (Class 3)’.

Jeannie Chantler, General Manager here at Bangor-On-Dee Racecourse has stated that she is ‘Very proud that he should win this and that it should be recognised in this way with a race at Cheltenham – the Home of Jump Racing, and Jump Racing is at his heart.’

Racing Welfare chief executive Dawn Goodfellow has said: “Once again, I’m heartened to see so many deserving nominations from across the racing industry. It’s always such a pleasure to read the stories, and these awards give us the opportunity to shine a light on some of British horseracing’s longest standing staff members who have contributed so much to the sport. It was incredibly difficult to select the winners – if you looked at the northern entries for example, you have nearly 300 years of service to the industry and in the south over 230 years represented by the nominees – what an amazing story! Congratulations to the winners and indeed all those who were nominated.”
