BANGOR-ON-DEE UNVEILS NEW WEIGHING ROOM AT SPOOKTACULAR HALLOWEEN RACE DAY

Published on 29 October 2026

Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse hosted an action-packed day of racing, Halloween entertainment and a grand opening of new facilities this week at the Spooktacular Family Day fixture.

Joined by a group of fellow Welsh jockeys and Clerk of the Course Lily Harris, jockey Murray Dodd officially cut the ribbon after spectators counted down.

In less than seven weeks, having started work immediately after the last fixture on 8th September, the team at Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse have completely transformed the space. The overall goal was to create a more modernised working environment for jockeys, valets, officials, and others. Alongside the refreshed and modernised look, the main changes include:

  • A valet working area based outside of the changing rooms which is equally accessible from both female and male changing rooms.
  • Communal rest and food provision area for jockeys away from the changing rooms
  • Additional private changing and shower facilities within the changing rooms

Clerk of course Lily Harris said: “We started straight after our last fixture on September 8, literally the next day, so it’s been a large project to cram into the gap.

“It was full steam ahead for everyone and huge credit must go to the maintenance team and the contractors, they’ve done a great job.

“We’ve kept within the existing footprint and we’re very proud of it,” Harris said. “It looks great. Hopefully everyone will think the same.”
