Two Summer Saturday Winners For Shark Hanlon Racing

Published on 12 June 2023

Trainer John ‘Shark’ Hanlon recorded two successes on his visit to Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse for the Summer Saturday on 10 June.

The Ireland-based trainer, who last had runners at the racecourse in 2011, watched on as Master Player and Rose In The Park won two of the three GBB races, The Tote.co.uk Bet £5 Get £20 “National Hunt” Maiden Hurdle and The Stella Artois Mares’ Open National Hunt Flat race (Cat 2 Elimination), respectively. The other GBB race on the card was claimed by the Matt Sheppard-trained Pottlerath.

Other winners on the afternoon were Junior Massini, Feel The Pinch, Midnight Jewel and Bergentown, with the latter claiming The Tote Supporting Racing With Pride Novices’ Handicap Hurdle, which included a specially designed rainbow coloured winners rug.

Champion jump jockey Brian Hughes, who was on board Rose In The Park for Shark Hanlon Racing, also joined the regular trainer he rides for, Donald McCain, for a special presentation, with the racecourse recognising their achievements as leading jockey and trainer at Bangor-on-Dee for 2022/23.

Donald McCain has now won the leading trainer accolade at Bangor-on-Dee for every year he has been training, a total of some 17 years at his local track.

Racing next returns to Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse for Ladies Day on Friday 4 August.
