One of Bangor-on-Dee’s most loved fixtures is back! Countryside Day, a celebration of rural life, racing and the great outdoors returns to the racecourse this Wednesday (12 November) and is proudly sponsored by Crest Environmental Services Limited.
Marking its 25th anniversary, Crest Environmental Services Limited joins as the event’s title sponsor. Founded in 2000 and headquartered in Ellesmere Port, the company delivers high-hazard industrial and environmental solutions across the UK, with expertise in HSE-licensed asbestos removal, toxic chemical remediation and petrochemical industrial services.
Racegoers can look forward to a truly authentic countryside experience, complete with vintage tractors, the Wynnstay Hunt and their hounds, pre-loved country clothing stands and a fun dog show open for entries on the day. The competition will feature four light-hearted categories sure to raise smiles, including the Mission Impawsible Award for the best trick, the Waggiest Tail Award, the Mutt Gala Award for the most stylish or best turned-out dog, and the Doppelganger Award for the dog who looks most like their owner.
Set against the racecourse’s stunning Welsh countryside backdrop, the day blends heart-pounding jump racing with rural charm and family fun. Guests are encouraged to dust off their finest tweed, pull on their boots and bring their furry companions for what promises to be a perfect countryside day out.
Racing begins at 12:30pm with the Crest Environmental Services 25th Anniversary Novices’ Hurdle, setting the tone for an afternoon of high-quality competition. The feature race follows at 1:30pm, the Yorton Mares’ Novices’ Chase (Class 1, Listed) for The Richard Aston Trophy, run in memory of Bangor-on-Dee’s late former chairman, Richard Aston. This prestigious contest is the only Listed race held at Bangor-on-Dee all year, offering a prize pot of £40,000, and has a strong record of producing future stars who go on to compete at major meetings including the Cheltenham Festival and Aintree Grand National.
The action continues with the Weatherbys and Birdie Calendars Handicap Chase at 2pm, also offering £40,000 in prize money, before a full afternoon of top-class racing concludes with the Greenhous DAF Handicap Hurdle Race at 4pm.
