Bretney Wins Inaugural RPM North Wales National

Published on 13 February 2023

The Henry Daly trained Bretney was the inaugural winner of the RPM North Wales National at Bangor-on-Dee on Friday 10 February.

The eight-year-old, pulled up at Hereford just five days earlier, benefitted from first-time blinkers to pull clear of the chasing No Cruise Yet and The Questioner to claim one of two successes for jockey Tom O’Brien, who also rode favourite Well Vicky to victory in The Morogowsky Family Mares’ Novices Handicap Hurdle Race.

The crowd for the seven-card meeting, Bangor-on-Dee’s first of 2023, was up 12% on the attendance recorded this time last year, while the meeting also marked the first under the stewardship of new General Manager Patrick Chesters, who started in the role last month.

Patrick Chesters said:

“It’s a nice and welcome addition to have a feature race like this on our card in February, and we’d like to thank all those who came out to support it.

“The North Wales National, sponsored by RPM, had always been something that the committee had wished for, and we’re now looking forward to building on this success moving forward.”

The next fixture to be held at Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse is The Spring Meeting on Saturday 25 March, with early bird tickets starting from £7 for Open Course and £19 for the Paddock Enclosure. Children aged 17 and under are admitted free of charge with an adult ticketholder.
