Simply Red Maintains Impressive Form at Family Fun Evening

Published on 22 August 2023

Simply Red maintained her impressive record at Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse, as more than 3,300 guests turned out for a fantastic Family Fun Evening.

The mare made it four wins from four starts at the track under the ride of Charlie Maggs, seeing off the challenge of Getaway Tom to win the Becks Handicap Hurdle Race (DIV II).

That victory also made it a hat-trick of successes on the night for local trainer Donald McCain, who watched The Big Jetaway and Choirmaster win the Family Fun Evening Novices’ Hurdle Race and the Becks Handicap Hurdle Race (DIV I) with Brian Hughes in the saddle.

Harry Skelton, meanwhile, celebrated a winner on his first ride since returning from injury aboard Flat White in the September Meeting Tribute to Queen Mares’ Handicap Hurdle Race (DIV I).

Other winners on the night were the Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero trained El Borracho, Slate Lane for trainer Emmet Mullins, and Pull Again Green and Police Academy for trainer Fergal O’Brien.

The racecard was preceded by two PRA pony races from the Dragon TV Studios Racecourse Series, won by Maesteg Ruth (138cm and under) and It’s Fatherted (148cm and under). Our congratulations go to the winning riders, Myla Coppins and Mason Paetel.

Off the track, a host of fun activities were available to get involved in out on the Open Course, ranging from inflatables and a climbing wall to Net World Sports football challenges.

The racecourse would like to thank all those in attendance at Family Fun Evening and looks forward to now welcoming guests back to the track for the September Meeting on Tuesday 5 September, which features a post-racing performance by Flash: A Tribute to Queen.
