On Friday 7 September, 41 Bangor-on-Dee Annual Members met at the Oliver Greenall Racing yard in Malpas. As the crisp morning sun shone, the group gathered for bacon and sausage sandwiches before Oliver led a tour around the stunning 80-acre site.
The tour began in the large, airy Stables which house 50 racehorses, 35 of which are currently in training. Oliver has chosen stables with low partitions between them, meaning that the horses can see one another which stops them from becoming bored and ensures that the horses are relaxed.
The Loose Schools were next, a vital facility for any jumps trainer. The Schools are used for horses of all ages and experience and can accommodate a range of jumps at different heights. They enable the trainer to address specific goals, from schooling young horses to sorting problems with older more experienced horses.
“Over the last couple of years we have invested substantially to ensure our facilities are in line with our ambitions. When you combine these with our superb setting, we have an establishment which we can be proud of”, Oliver Greenall.
A short walk to the gallops rounded off the morning at the Yard. The gallop includes a four-furlong uphill carpet section where the horses can train on a springy surface which is excellent in helping to develop the horses balance and maintain stamina. Here the members excitedly watched three horses on their daily training ride.
